Saving Daylight

Shortest of the year
Today we lost an hour
Except in AZ

Granted, the idea of Daylight Savings Time was ingenious when it was first developed. But does it have relevancy today? No longer do most Americans wake to the sound of a rooster crowing. I, in fact, generally wake up well before dawn cracks to begin my daily grind (apparently I work in a mill of some kind that has grinding that needs doing.) I am often awake after dusk as well, which necessitates my burning of the scented candle at both ends. (Break the glass, then light the bottom.) Occasionally I will even burn the midnight oil while cooking the midnight bacon.
But with all this new fangled electric lighting things they got these days I hardly see the need to wind the hands on grandpa's clock just to realign with someone's idea of when the day begins. I do find it annoying to have to unplug the VCR and plug it in again at noon so that it blinks the correct time again.
But why am I so tired on the shortest day of the year?

Yeah, in AZ we like the daylight at 4am and the darkness at 7pm during the summer time. We really really really like it a lot, expecially since neighborhoods still won't let construction guys work in the early daylight and cool hours.
